1st Annual Frank N Con!

So today I have no nail art for you. My attempts to lift the pictures from the Ziploc bag were a bust :( I think perhaps they may need another day to dry. So I'll try those again. But for now, I wanted to take a moment to talk about Frank N Con. I went this morning with my kids and although one of them was being a non participating butthole making our stay there very short and leaving us unable to fully check out everything the convention had to offer, there were a few celebrities that actually made it worthwhile imo.

The convention itself was pretty small, so not much walking around. Of course, that means that there wasn't a lot of elbow room for walking around. I also went right when they opened, so there weren't too many people there. Like the big cheap-o I am, I purchased my tickets through groupon for half off. Which normally wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that the ticket counter checking off online purchased tickets was being manned by a lady who didn't know what groupon was. I had to explain to her that I had already paid for my tickets, the printout was my ticket and that I wasn't going to pay for more tickets. She had a hard time understanding that my printed out ticket was not a coupon for a discount on ticket purchases. In between asking me several times for my name but never actually looking it up, she kept telling me I had to go to the other line to buy tickets with my coupon. Hahahaha

Finally there were a couple of young men behind her who told her basically what I was trying to tell her, but she actually listened to them. They found my name within seconds and let us in! I was really impressed by the sheer amount of celebrities they had there. There were lots of vendors and unless I just didn't see it, there wasn't any free stuff. I thought perhaps they'd be giving out bags of cool stuff or something?? Anyhow, I took this as an opportunity to test run my kids' Halloween makeup and thank goodness for that. I'm trying my hand at acrylic paints this year and although the wounds came out ok, I think I'll stick to minimal skin makeup outside of the wounds. The kids liked how it turned out though, so that was a plus!

All in all, I have to say my favorite part of the convention was getting to meet the crazy babysitter twins from Grindhouse and Machete (they were Nurses in this film) and Brian Steele (Creature Boy). The twins were so sweet and polite. They spoke respectfully and attentively to each person who visited their table whether they bought something or not and I couldn't get over how beautiful they are in real life! I've seen one or two other famous people in real life and they always seemed to look better on screen. But that wasn't the case here.

Also, Brian Steele, what an awesome guy! I think part of my fascination is that I'm only 5'2" and he's 6'7" - so yeah, don't judge me!  Anyhow, considering the huge list of major roles he's had, I was surprised he was such a cool guy. Seemed very down to Earth and was pretty much great to my kids. Which, in my book, earns a lot of my respect! We ended up getting a huge Predator poster from his table, he autographed it and even took a picture with 2 of my boys. Of course my 3rd was being a butthead. So, unfortunately when he gets older and looks back at the picture, he won't be in it :( Anyhow, enough talking! Here's 3 pics from the event.

We also got to meet Miguel A. Nunez Jr., William Stout, Bob Elmore and a few other people from the Return of the Living Dead movie. I think we might have only been there about an hour before the baby had a complete meltdown. But I still think the little we were able to check out was pretty cool. Maybe next year as the kids will be older, we'll be able to check out some more stuff.

Freaky Friday!

So today I'm dipping into my old stash of pictures again. I do apologize. We are expecting guests this weekend so I haven't had time to do my nails.

I did want to show you guys something that just happened in front of my house a few minutes ago. But that after the comparison picture I have for you. Here I'm comparing OPI's Plum Full of Cheer with Visions of Sugarplum. Both Ulta exclusives for the holidays from this past year and the year before.

You can see Plum Full of Cheer is a bit different. VoS has more and bigger shimmer in it but the base colors are a bit similar.

Now, what is up with today? The weather here has been unable to decide if it wants to be cloudy or sunny. And as I was washing dishes, a view outside of my kitchen window showed a vehicle speeding down our street and behind it a police vehicle with the lights and sirens full blaze. The police vehicle then stopped right in front of my house and the officer exited the vehicle pointing his weapon at what I assume to be the suspects they were chasing.

I honestly was too afraid at this point to go outside. So I waited a bit and when I did, there were several other police vehicles, both marked and unmarked.

This honestly is the first time this has happened on our street since I've lived here in 2006. So, the scene was a bit shocking, but exciting at the same time. I snapped a few pictures and took a short video because I'm a tourist at heart. We don't know why the suspects were chased and arrested, rumor has it they were caught robbing someone at gunpoint in a public area and fled the scene. How true that is, I can't be sure. But that's what I heard. Either way, the police seemed to conduct themselves in a professional manner and thank goodness there was no on foot chase through our backyards! That would have been really scary.

So thank you EPPD for doing what you do. Here's the pics and video. And yes our neighbors were gathering around and chatting throughout. Below in the first pic, the blue vehicle with the door wide open is the vehicle of the guys that were arrested.

I also sent these pictures and video to a local news channel, hopefully they'll use them tonight with more details! I'd like to know what exactly was going on.

Well, I'm off to finish preparing the guest bedroom and then to pick up some extra groceries. I may not have time to post next week. I guess it depends on how much time we spend outside the house. Hope you're all doing well and have a great weekend!

All filler, no thriller

So my buddy blogger left me! Just kidding. Not really, but she's been in the process of something, which is why I'm creating this filler post to help the void of her absence a bit :p

Unfortunately for you guys, I don't change my mani daily. So since I'm still wearing Jade is The New Black, I thought I'd show you guys some of my recent purchases. This is over the last few weeks, so don't think I went out and got all of this stuff in one day!!!

First, my Alice in Wonderland stuff. I stayed up the night of the 14th last month to order from the UD website when it first launched. My order was complete within the first 2 minutes after midnight (eastern time), so I was lucky enough to get it a week later. Here are my crappy pics of it along with the 3 AIW OPIs I have.




Next up is my newest most favoritest lipstick, Lancome's Chris & Tell. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

This next group of items is known as my guilt haul. My Dear Old Daddy in CA sent me some money to spend on my husband for his birthday and it was way too much, so I spent some on myself :X Yes I am weak. So, since purchasing, these items have been hiding in my linen closet. Everytime I look at them they make me feel guilty and shameful :( It's Chanel Particuliere, Inattendu, 2 Prescriptives eyeshadows and a refillable palette, MAC's Soft Ochre Paint Pot and Gleam e/s then Dior's Amber Design Palette.


And finally, my latest 8ty8 haul. I know some have said horror stories about their shipping, but I can honestly say that in 3 years of ordering from them, I've never had to wait more than 3 days to get my stuff. Except for weekends and holidays. But I've always received stellar service from them and if you don't like them or have had a bad experience with them, then I apologize. But I also love transdesign, so maybe you should give them a try if you haven't already?
